Just days after meeting with Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, Alex Soros faced scrutiny for his foundation’s $250,000 donation to Al-Haq, a group designated as a terrorist organization by Israel.
Just last week, Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz visited Alex Soros at his New York City home, where they were photographed together. The meeting, highlighted by Soros on social media, came shortly after it was revealed that the Soros family's Open Society Foundations had donated $250,000 in 2023 to Al-Haq, a human rights organization designated as a terrorist group by Israel due to its ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
Al-Haq, linked to the PFLP — a U.S.-designated terrorist organization — has faced mounting scrutiny, particularly for its leadership’s praise of militant actions against Israel. The Open Society Foundations, formerly led by billionaire George Soros and now by his son Alex, has long supported the organization despite its controversial activities, contributing more than $2 million between 2016 and 2020. The most recent donation marks the first since Israel officially classified Al-Haq as a terrorist group in 2021.
While Alex Soros has continued to position himself as a major figure in Democratic fundraising and progressive activism, his support for Al-Haq has raised concerns about the organizations benefiting from the family’s philanthropy. During a memorial for a PFLP leader in 2019, Al-Haq’s director, Shawan Jabarin, attended the event, further cementing the group's ties to the terror organization.
As Soros remains active in U.S. politics — meeting regularly with figures like Vice President Kamala Harris, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and now Tim Walz — his foundation’s continued support for groups like Al-Haq continues to spark controversy, particularly as the organization’s leaders have defended extremist actions and aligned themselves with anti-Israel sentiment.
