The convicted murderer of an 11-year-old girl, who was recently freed by Governor Walz, has now been convicted of a new gun crime.
Former federal prosecutor and current Republican congressional candidate Joe Teirab criticized Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) for commuting the sentence of Myon Burrell, a man convicted of murdering an 11-year-old girl. Teirab, running for Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, described Walz as an “utter failure,” referencing the governor’s response to the 2020 Black Lives Matter riots and questioning his decision to commute Burrell’s sentence.
Teirab explained that Burrell, a member of the Bloods street gang, was convicted of shooting and killing 11-year-old Tyesha Edwards while she was doing homework at her kitchen table in 2002. After serving nearly 20 years of a life sentence, Burrell maintained his innocence but was ultimately released when Walz, alongside Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison and Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Lorie Gildea, voted to commute his sentence in December 2020.
Teirab also noted that shortly after being released from prison, Burrell was arrested again for gun and drug charges, with the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which had been promoted by Vice President Kamala Harris during the 2020 riots, bailing him out.
Teirab emphasized that Walz "has to answer for" the decision, highlighting the troubling circumstances of Burrell's reoffending after his release.
