Walz Distributed Coins With Fake Rank

A challenge coin distributed by Governor Tim Walz reveals he inflated his military rank, raising questions about his long-standing claims of higher service credentials.

A recently revealed image of a challenge coin distributed by Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) during his time as a congressman shows him displaying a higher military rank than he actually earned, suggesting that his rank inflation was more than just a misstatement.

The image, shared on a podcast hosted by a drill sergeant, shows a coin bearing Walz’s name and the insignia of a Command Sergeant Major, an E-9 rank in the Army. The podcast host told Breitbart News that the photo was taken by a soldier who received the coin from then-Congressman Walz and shared it with him.

For nearly two decades, Walz has claimed to be a retired Command Sergeant Major, despite military records showing he retired as a Master Sergeant, a lower rank of E-8. A journalist from the Daily Wire confirmed the coin's legitimacy, and an X user found another post corroborating the authenticity of the image.

Facing scrutiny over the discrepancy, the Harris-Walz campaign altered Walz’s biography to reflect his true rank. Although Walz was conditionally promoted to Command Sergeant Major, he never completed the necessary requirements and retired before his unit deployed to Iraq—a deployment he was aware of, according to his former division commander, Doug Julin.

The campaign also addressed a separate controversy where Walz claimed in 2018 to have carried weapons “in war,” despite never deploying to a combat zone, attributing the statement to a "misspeak."

If authentic, the challenge coin demonstrates that Walz knowingly misrepresented his military rank while serving as a congressman.
