Undecided Voters Unconvinced By Harris Focus Group Shows, Trump Won 60% Of Undecided Voters

Vice President Kamala Harris may have won the debate, but she failed to win over undecided voters, with many citing a lack of clear policy direction as they leaned toward supporting Donald Trump.

Despite being seen winning Tuesday's presidential debate against Republican former president Donald Trump by the media, Vice President Kamala Harris failed to convince undecided voters that she was the better candidate.

A small group of undecided voters interviewed by Reuters after the debate showed that Harris’s performance didn’t shift the needle in her favor. Out of the ten people interviewed, six said they were either now leaning toward voting for Trump or had solidified their support for him. Only three expressed support for Harris after the debate, while one remained uncertain.

This small sample highlighted Harris's challenge in winning over voters still unsure of their choice, particularly in key battleground states where the race between her and Trump remains tight. Five of those undecided voters criticized Harris for being vague on how she would address critical issues like the economy and high living costs. For them, her debate performance lacked the policy detail they were seeking.

"She focused more on attacking Trump than on explaining how she would fix things," said Robert Wheeler, a security firm executive in Nevada who had been leaning toward Harris but is now considering Trump.

This sentiment was echoed by others who said they trusted Trump more on economic matters despite not liking him personally. They credited him with improving their financial situation during his presidency and doubted Harris’s ability to offer different policies from President Biden, whom they blame for inflation and economic struggles.

Mark Kadish, an entrepreneur from Florida, summed up the skepticism, saying, “I still don't know what she is for. There was no real substance to her plans.”

While Harris mentioned policy ideas like tax benefits for families and small businesses, her emphasis on attacking Trump left some voters feeling that her vision for the future was unclear. For Harris, convincing undecided voters remains critical as her tight race with Trump could be decided by small margins in pivotal states.
