Two illegal immigrants, including one with a prior rape conviction, have been arrested for a brutal knifepoint assault in Coney Island, raising questions about their presence in the U.S.
Two illegal immigrants have been arrested for a brutal knifepoint rape in Coney Island, including one who had crossed into the U.S. illegally in 2022 and was later arrested for rape in Brooklyn, according to law enforcement sources.
David Davon-Bonilla, a 24-year-old Nicaraguan migrant, allegedly attacked a 46-year-old woman near Surf Avenue and 16th Street around 9 p.m. on Sunday, throwing her to the ground and raping her while holding a knife to her throat. His alleged accomplice, 37-year-old Mexican migrant Leovando Moreno, reportedly struck the woman’s 34-year-old boyfriend with a pipe when he attempted to intervene.
The attack occurred outside a hotel housing asylum seekers, sources said.
Davon-Bonilla had illegally entered the U.S. through Texas in December 2022 and pleaded guilty last year to the sexual assault of a 34-year-old woman at a La Quinta hotel. That assault took place on April 23, 2023, where the victim was raped and sodomized. It's unclear why Davon-Bonilla was allowed to remain in the U.S. after being released from jail following that incident.
The victim of the recent attack is reportedly homeless and living in an encampment under the boardwalk near where the assault occurred. According to sources, Bonilla had confronted her and demanded sex before the attack.
After the assault, the victim was taken to Coney Island Hospital and is in stable condition. Her boyfriend declined medical attention at the scene.
