MILWAUKEE—Former President Donald Trump, with a visible bandage on his ear, made a dramatic return to the public eye at the Republican National Convention in Wisconsin last night, days after a narrow escape from an assassination attempt.

Trump's presence on the jumbotron at the Fiserv Forum just before 9 p.m. CT ignited a wave of cheers from the crowd. The bandage on his right ear, the result of a bullet graze from the would-be assassin, was a stark reminder of the recent threat he faced.

As Trump appeared, Lee Greenwood took the stage, rallying support for the former president. To the stirring chords of “Proud to Be an American,” Trump walked onto the stage, exuding confidence and resilience. His son, Donald Trump Jr., signaled his support with a thumbs up from the family box. As Greenwood performed, Trump engaged with the audience, mouthing "Thank you" and soaking in the chants of “USA!” and “Fight!” followed by, “We love Trump.”

The event was further charged by Trump's announcement of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate. This revelation ended months of speculation and set a decisive tone for the campaign. "After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” Trump declared on Truth Social.

Trump praised Vance's extensive qualifications, highlighting his service in the Marine Corps, his academic achievements at Ohio State University and Yale Law School, and his successful career in business. “J.D. honorably served our Country... championed the hardworking men and women of our Country... and now will focus on American Workers and Farmers,” Trump emphasized.

The choice of Vance, author of the bestselling memoir “Hillbilly Elegy,” brings a powerful narrative to the campaign. Vance's ascent from Appalachian roots to the Ivy League, coupled with his staunch support for Trump’s America First policies, particularly on trade and border security, makes him a compelling vice presidential candidate.

Notable endorsements quickly followed. MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, at the convention, expressed his full support, “There’s not a phoniness about him.” Republican activist Scott Presler remarked on Vance’s potential to secure key Midwest battleground states.

Reactions from other Republican figures were equally supportive. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum praised Vance’s selection, underscoring his intelligence, commitment, and small-town roots.

The Biden campaign criticized the selection, claiming Vance would enable Trump's "extreme MAGA agenda." Nevertheless, Vance remains unphased, ready to face Vice President Kamala Harris in an anticipated debate.

This strategic move by Trump aims to galvanize the base and sway undecided voters. As the campaign heats up, the Trump-Vance ticket is set to be a formidable force in the upcoming election.
