Trump Tops Taylor Swift

Former President Donald Trump has edged out pop star Taylor Swift in a new favorability poll, casting doubt on the impact of Swift's recent endorsement of Kamala Harris as voters remain largely unmoved by her political stance.

In a surprising twist, former President Donald Trump has scored a higher favorability rating than pop sensation Taylor Swift, according to a new poll from *The New York Times*, *The Philadelphia Inquirer*, and Siena College. The poll, released Thursday, showed 47 percent of respondents viewed Trump favorably, while Swift garnered a 44 percent favorability rating. The survey included over 2,400 likely voters.

The results come in the wake of Taylor Swift’s high-profile endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, which appears to be falling short of expectations. Despite the media hype surrounding Swift’s endorsement, recent polling indicates that it has had little impact on voters.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll released Sunday revealed that only 6 percent of respondents said Swift’s endorsement made them more likely to vote for Harris. Meanwhile, 13 percent said it made them less likely to support the Democrat presidential nominee, and a significant 81 percent stated it made no difference in their voting decision.

A separate YouGov poll echoed this sentiment, with only 8 percent of respondents saying they were “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for Harris due to Swift’s support. In contrast, 20 percent said they were “somewhat” or “much more likely” to vote for Trump as a result of Swift’s endorsement.

Thursday’s poll also showed Harris with a 48 percent favorability rating, placing her in a statistical tie with Trump.

Swift’s endorsement has attracted widespread media attention since she posted her support for Harris on Instagram just after the latest presidential debate. However, the pop star tempered her message, encouraging her followers to research the candidates and make their own informed voting decisions.

Despite her influence among young voters, Swift’s endorsement has done little to energize a demographic that remains wary of Harris. Many progressive voters, disillusioned by the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the ongoing Gaza conflict, have shifted their support to alternative candidates, such as Green Party nominee Jill Stein.

As Harris struggles to win over young progressives, and Trump continues to retain a solid base of support, Swift’s political sway may be proving less effective than anticipated in the 2024 election.
