A recent CBS News poll sheds light on potential challenges for President Biden in Arizona, a state he narrowly won in 2020. According to the poll, former President Trump currently holds a 5-point lead over Biden among likely voters, with 52 percent support compared to Biden's 47 percent. This revelation comes on the heels of a controversial state Supreme Court ruling that upheld a law from 1864, effectively criminalizing abortion in Arizona.
Abortion emerges as a significant issue for Arizona voters, with 51 percent indicating it will heavily influence their decision in the upcoming presidential election. Moreover, 65 percent express support for a constitutional right to abortion in the state. Biden's campaign has seized upon the abortion ruling, launching an ad campaign emphasizing the threat Trump poses to abortion access for women. Trump, meanwhile, has advocated for leaving abortion laws to the states, although he criticized the Arizona ruling as extreme.
The poll, conducted from May 10-16 among 1,510 adults in Arizona, carries a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points for the entire sample and 3.5 percentage points for registered voters.
