Trump Doubles Black Support

As former President Donald Trump makes unprecedented gains with Black voters and President Joe Biden's support within the same demographic wanes, the political landscape is poised for a significant shift ahead of the 2024 election.

A CBS News/YouGov poll published this week reveals that former President Donald Trump is gaining traction with Black voters, with support now at 23 percent—nearly double his 2020 figure.

In the 2020 election, exit polls indicated that Trump garnered 12 percent of the Black vote, an increase from the 8 percent he received in 2016. Meanwhile, Black voter support for President Joe Biden has significantly declined.

According to CNN, exit polls from 2020 showed Biden had 87 percent support among Black voters. However, the recent CBS News/YouGov poll shows that support has dropped to 75 percent.

Politico Magazine recently interviewed several Black men in Milwaukee who are part of a voter advocacy group's pilot program aimed at increasing Black male voting participation, finding lukewarm support for Biden.

"Sleepy Joe?" barber Rome Simmons remarked when asked about Biden. "You see the way he shuffles around. Hell, I’d be sleepy, too."

Lorenzo Davis, a barber and ambassador for Black Men Vote's pilot program, expressed his intention to vote for Trump. "He’s about business," Davis told Politico. "I agree with him that we should have more American-made products."
