Nicholas Biase, a top spokesman for the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office, was caught on hidden camera blasting Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg’s prosecution of Donald Trump as politically motivated.
Nicholas Biase, the chief spokesman for the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office, was caught on hidden camera criticizing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s prosecution of former President Donald Trump. In the footage, Biase accuses Bragg of engaging in "lawfare" to further his political ambitions and describes the case as a "perversion of justice."
The secret recordings, which were released by conservative podcaster Steven Crowder, show Biase expressing his disapproval of the prosecution, which involves Trump facing 34 felony charges related to falsifying business records. Biase, who has known Bragg for 15 years, claims Bragg is using the high-profile case to boost his political career. "Before he decided to prosecute Trump, did you know who he was? You do now," Biase said in the footage.
In the recordings, Biase also criticized the legal proceedings as a "mockery of justice" and lamented that state-level justice systems operate with less oversight than federal systems. He expressed his belief that the prosecution's focus on Trump is politically motivated and potentially damaging to his candidacy.
Biase’s remarks extend beyond Bragg's prosecution. He also derided other state-level legal actions against Trump, including those led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, calling them "travesties of justice."
In response to the revelations, Biase issued a public apology. He stated that his comments were made in an attempt to impress someone he had just met and do not reflect his true views. "I regretfully made some statements in a private and social setting that don’t reflect my views about two local and state prosecutions," Biase said in his statement.
Biase, who was promoted to his position in 2021 by Manhattan U.S. Attorney Damian Williams, has faced criticism for his comments, which have highlighted ongoing debates about the motivations behind high-profile legal cases involving Trump.
