Three illegal immigrants from Honduras have been arrested in Palm Beach County, Florida, on charges of sexually abusing a child under the age of 12. The suspects—Selvin Lopez Lopez, Erick Lopez Lopez, and Jesersson Lopez Lopez—were taken into custody by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, accused of committing the abuse over a two-month period.
According to authorities, Selvin and Erick Lopez Lopez entered the United States in 2021 by crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. After turning themselves in to Border Patrol, both were released into the U.S. interior and instructed to appear before an immigration judge. However, neither attended their court hearings. Jesersson Lopez Lopez crossed the border earlier this year and was similarly released, with a court date set for 2028.
All three suspects are currently being held at the Palm Beach County Jail without bond.
The case has sparked controversy due to the fact that the three men were released into the U.S. under the Biden administration’s immigration policies. Critics argue that the release of individuals into the U.S. while they await immigration hearings creates risks for public safety. DHS has not yet commented on the case.
