Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Texas, took to Newsmax on Wednesday to criticize President Joe Biden's administration for being "completely out of touch" with the reality on the ground in Texas following Hurricane Beryl's landfall early Monday.
The Category 1 hurricane, with winds reaching 80 mph, left 2.3 million homes and businesses in Texas without power. Amid scorching temperatures, the urgency to restore power is paramount.
During her appearance on "Wake Up America," Van Duyne addressed the White House's allegations that Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, managing the storm response while Gov. Greg Abbott is overseas, has been unreachable for coordinating federal disaster aid.
According to a report in The Hill, Biden and Patrick connected on Tuesday, leading to Patrick’s formal disaster declaration, which the president approved.
"I don't think President Biden knows where he is half the time," Van Duyne remarked. "Right now, it's about getting people's power back while they face triple-digit heat. Dan Patrick is doing a fantastic job. Trust but verify. You need boots on the ground.
"Pictures paint a thousand words, and when Patrick is side by side with Biden’s FEMA staff, doing the work, it's clear we have a president who is completely out of touch. Patrick is doing what needs to be done, helping millions of Texans regain power after a horrible storm.
"Thank God we didn’t have more loss of life. Texas is used to these storms, but we need the administration to be serious. We need a president who understands the importance of trust but verify, and for God's sake, stop lying to the American public."
Responding to the administration’s claim that Biden is "working around the clock" to provide resources for Texans, Van Duyne scoffed, "I think it's a joke."
"At least be consistent with your messaging," she said. "We know he’s out of pocket. Getting maybe six hours of work out of him a day is generous. The president isn’t there. The rest of the world sees it; 50 million people saw it firsthand during the debate last week. It's embarrassing.
"The Democrats are in full-blown meltdown mode, trying to figure out what to do. There's a lot happening, not just the storms in Texas. Around the world, there's a lot going on, and we have a president who belongs in a memory facility, not the Oval Office."
