**Washington Examiner Reports Ties Between Rep. Tlaib's Campaign and Controversial Consultant**
On Tuesday, the Washington Examiner reported that Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), a member of the progressive "Squad," has directed over $435,000 from her campaign and leadership PAC to Unbought Power, a consulting firm run by Rasha Mubarak. Mubarak, who has held roles in organizations linked to terrorism, also serves as the treasurer of Tlaib's Rooted in Community Leadership PAC. Despite significant backlash following comments made by Mubarak and Tlaib, both the Congresswoman and her allies have continued their financial relationship with Unbought Power.
According to the Washington Examiner:
“The consistent payments from Rashida Tlaib for Congress and Rooted in Community Leadership PAC to Unbought Power highlight Tlaib’s connections to activists involved with entities linked to Hamas, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and other terrorist organizations. The Squad’s joint fundraising committee, which includes Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Cori Bush (D-MO), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and other Democrats, has also paid $86,000 to Mubarak's firm, which has previously questioned Israel's right to self-defense.”
Between 2023 and 2024, Tlaib’s campaign and PAC paid $139,000 to Unbought Power, including $43,000 this year alone. Following a Fox News report, Mubarak protected her social media accounts, but she has a history of amplifying pro-Palestinian messages, including promoting events that criticize Israel and support Palestinian causes.
Recent social media posts tagged with Mubarak reference the "Nakba," the Palestinian term for the establishment of Israel in 1948, and accuse Israel of ongoing genocide. Her posts often criticize the police and advocate for defunding or abolishing law enforcement, aligning with her self-description as an abolitionist.
Tlaib herself has spoken about the Nakba and introduced related resolutions. She was censured last November for defending the phrase "From the River to the Sea," which is often associated with calls for the elimination of Israel.
Unbought Power's website highlights Mubarak's Palestinian identity and her experiences with marginalization. It presents her as an unapologetic activist for human rights, including Palestinian rights. Despite these claims, the firm has been linked to the Alliance for Global Justice, an organization with ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
According to the Washington Examiner:
“The Alliance for Global Justice and its offshoots, such as the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network, are currently unable to fundraise online and are directing the public to mail checks to their address in Tucson, Arizona. Mubarak, who is also president of the advocacy arm of the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, has been involved in these networks. The U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights has connections to the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) National Committee, which includes groups linked to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad.”
Mubarak and the Alliance for Global Justice did not respond to requests for comment. Tlaib's office also did not respond to inquiries from Fox News or the Washington Examiner. When previously questioned by Fox News, Tlaib avoided addressing allegations about Hamas and more recently criticized a Fox News reporter for asking about anti-American chants in her district.
