Full Report:

In a private call last week, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reportedly expressed to President Joe Biden that his continued presence in the presidential race could jeopardize the Democrats' chances of retaking control of the House this fall. Concerns among Democratic lawmakers are mounting, especially given recent polls suggesting Biden may not be able to defeat former President Donald Trump.

Though the exact date of the call is unclear, it occurred within the last week, marking the second conversation between Pelosi and Biden since his debate with Trump on June 27, according to CNN, citing four informed sources. One source revealed that Biden rebutted Pelosi's concerns, claiming to have seen polls showing he could triumph over Trump. Pelosi even asked Biden's long-time adviser, Mike Donilon, to join the call and discuss the data.

Sources did not confirm if Pelosi directly urged Biden to withdraw his reelection bid. However, she has been closely listening to her colleagues' apprehensions over the past few weeks. An ally of Pelosi mentioned she might eventually publicly press Biden to step aside, though she hasn't done so yet, according to Politico.

"The speaker does not want to call on him to resign, but she will do everything in her power to make sure it happens," the ally remarked.

Last week, Pelosi stated it was up to Biden to decide whether to run, but emphasized, "we're all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short."

White House spokesperson Andrew Bates did not address reports about the Pelosi-Biden call but affirmed that Biden "is the nominee of the party. He plans to win and looks forward to working with congressional Democrats to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Pelosi told CNN that the California Democrat has been in her home state since Friday and has not spoken with Biden since then.

This news follows an ABC News report indicating that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also advised Biden to end his campaign. They shared concerns that Biden's continued candidacy could hinder Democrats' efforts to win control of Congress.
