Pelosi Claims 30% Of Republicans Are Deplorable Further Dividing Country

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sparked controversy by claiming that 30% of Republican voters will never support Democrats due to sexist, racist, or homophobic views, drawing comparisons to Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” remark ahead of the tight 2024 election.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has sparked controversy with her recent comments suggesting that 30% of Republican voters will never support a Democratic candidate because of sexist, racist, or homophobic beliefs. During an interview at the Texas Tribune Festival, Pelosi reflected on the reasons behind the tight 2024 presidential race, linking a segment of GOP voters to deeply ingrained biases.

“There are people who will never be, shall we say, inclined to support Democrats because of — they just have a different orientation toward women, people of color, LGBTQ,” Pelosi said. “So, say that’s about like 30% or something like that… of the Republicans.”

Pelosi’s remarks quickly drew comparisons to Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” comment from 2016 and Mitt Romney’s “47%” remark in 2012, both of which were met with backlash and accusations of alienating voters.

Pelosi didn’t stop there, suggesting that wealthy individuals back Republicans to avoid taxes and costly regulations, contributing to the financial support of GOP campaigns. Ironically, as she pointed out the influence of money in politics, Pelosi herself has faced scrutiny for her own wealth growth during her tenure as Speaker.

Despite her sharp criticisms of GOP voters, Pelosi urged Democrats to remain respectful and understanding of their political opponents, highlighting concerns such as the impact of globalization and fears of job loss due to innovation.

Pelosi’s comments arrive as Vice President Kamala Harris continues to dominate the fundraising race, raising $361 million in August compared to Donald Trump’s $130 million. Harris, who took over the Democratic nomination after President Biden’s exit, now faces a tight contest with Trump, who is attempting a comeback bid.

Pelosi’s blunt analysis of the Republican electorate is likely to fuel further political debate as the 2024 election nears, particularly as Democrats strategize how to reach undecided voters in an increasingly polarized political climate.
