New Hampshire Now A Battleground As Harris Support Melts

New Hampshire’s shift to a tossup state just days before Election Day adds to Vice President Kamala Harris’s mounting challenges, as Trump gains ground in a race once leaning solidly in her favor.

With just five days until Election Day, Vice President Kamala Harris faces unexpected turbulence as New Hampshire, once leaning in her favor, has now shifted to tossup status, according to RealClearPolitics. This development signals a potential expansion in former President Donald Trump’s path to victory, a stark contrast to Harris’s struggle to gain traction in traditionally conservative states.

New polling from New Hampshire Journal/Praecones Analytica shows Trump narrowly leading Harris by 0.4 points (50.2% to 49.8%), a surprising twist that has pushed the Harris campaign to reallocate resources to defend the Granite State. “There’s a reason Kamala Harris has been spending money in New Hampshire,” Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said, noting that Harris’s focus on the state reflects a “defensive” posture in response to Trump’s momentum.

While aggregators like FiveThirtyEight and individual polls still show Harris with a slight edge, her lead has notably dwindled. FiveThirtyEight’s tracker has dropped Harris’s margin in New Hampshire from seven points at the start of October to just 5.1 points, while pollster Nate Silver’s data shows Trump gaining 2.2 points over the past month, a signal of tightening support.

New Hampshire’s sudden vulnerability for Harris underscores the narrow and unpredictable landscape of the race. The latest Dartmouth Poll, conducted earlier this month, reported Harris up by a wide 20.8-point margin—an advantage now at odds with recent polling data as Election Day approaches. This mounting pressure in New Hampshire adds to the challenges the Harris campaign faces in battleground states, where her margins have also narrowed in recent weeks, making it a fiercely competitive showdown as the clock winds down.
