The FBI agent leading the investigation into the second assassination attempt on President Donald Trump is facing serious allegations of anti-Trump and anti-conservative bias, with whistleblowers accusing him of retaliating against conservative agents and improperly revoking security clearances.
The FBI agent leading the investigation into the second attempt on President Donald Trump’s life, Jeff Veltri, has become the subject of controversy after a whistleblower revealed his involvement in an internal "retaliation investigation" for alleged anti-Trump and anti-conservative bias. Veltri, the Special Agent in Charge of the Miami Field Office, is overseeing the case of Ryan Routh, the individual accused of the recent assassination attempt on Trump. However, his own actions are now under scrutiny.
According to the whistleblower, Veltri was previously investigated by the FBI for identifying conservative employees within the agency as a "security concern" and retaliating against them. This information came to light in a letter from Empower Oversight, a whistleblower organization, sent to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH). The organization’s president, Tristan Leavitt, and their client, former FBI Staff Operations Specialist Marcus Allen, are set to testify before the House Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government.
The report alleges that during Veltri’s time as a section chief in the Security Division, political beliefs and personal decisions—such as views on the 2020 election—were improperly used as factors to suspend or revoke security clearances for FBI employees. Veltri reportedly told witnesses that while employees had First Amendment rights, they had no right to security clearances, raising concerns about political bias in internal investigations. One of the most alarming allegations is that Veltri targeted an agent's Christian faith, citing it as a reason to revoke access to classified information.
As Veltri leads the investigation into the Trump assassination attempt, these revelations raise questions about his impartiality and potential political motivations, especially in a case involving such a high-profile figure. The timing of these whistleblower reports, and their connection to broader concerns about the politicization of federal agencies, underscores the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the FBI’s internal practices.
