Jon Stewart has come out swinging against the White House and Democrats, condemning their "excuses" for President Joe Biden's "shocking" debate performance.
Stewart, known for his unfiltered commentary on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," did not hold back on Monday night. "The debate was a shocking display of cognitive difficulty, recognizable to, unfortunately, anybody who's dealt with aging parents, and it's a hard watch," he stated.
Mediaite reported that Stewart aired a compilation of Democrats' excuses following Biden's June 27 debate against former President Donald Trump. "He'd been home for almost two weeks. He was jet-lagged?" Stewart mocked, highlighting the blatant "spin" and noting that the "redemption tour hasn't gone that much better."
The show also played clips of Biden's past gaffes, such as his mistaken claim of speaking with late French President Francois Mitterrand instead of French President Emmanuel Macron, and instances where he read teleprompter cues aloud, like "pause" or "repeat the line."
Stewart criticized Democrats for focusing on Biden's mistakes rather than Trump's "pathological lying" during the debate. "The difference is Trump delivered at the debate to expectation," Stewart noted, adding that Trump is expected to be "crazy."
"Biden's performance and inability to articulate at times was stunning," he remarked. "I could not believe what I was watching."
Stewart lambasted the White House's immediate response, likening it to saying, "'These are not the droids you're looking for,'" instead of having an honest conversation and respecting Americans.
"I'm not saying Biden's gotta drop out, but can't we stress test this candidacy?" Stewart urged. "Can't we open up the conversation? Do you understand the opportunity here? Do you have any idea how thirsty Americans are for any hint of inspiration or leadership and a release from this choice of a megalomaniac and a suffocating gerontocracy?"
