In Run Up To DNC, 43 Shot in Chicago This Weekend,

As Chicago gears up for the Democratic National Convention, the city faces a stark reality: a violent weekend that left 43 people shot and four dead, underscoring the ongoing challenge of gun violence under Mayor Brandon Johnson's administration.


As the nation readies for the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago next week, the city has experienced a violent weekend, with at least 43 people shot and four fatalities reported under the leadership of Mayor Brandon Johnson (D).


News outlets reported that from Friday through Sunday morning alone, 19 people were shot in the Windy City, two of whom later succumbed to their injuries.


By Sunday night, ABC 7 reported that the number of shooting victims had climbed to at least 43.


Among the casualties was a 28-year-old man, who was found by police with multiple gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of South Harding Avenue. He was discovered around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday and was pronounced dead shortly after.


Later that same day, a 33-year-old man was shot and killed around 8:10 p.m. in the 1600 block of North Laramie Avenue. The victim was targeted by an individual who exited a black sedan and opened fire.


This violent weekend comes on the heels of the Fourth of July holiday, during which at least 100 people were shot in Chicago, with 17 of them dying from their injuries.
