An illegal alien who crossed the U.S.-Mexico border undetected is now accused of causing a fatal crash that killed 48-year-old Jennifer Ann Morton in Little Rock, Arkansas. Maynor Yair Sorto-Herrera, a 30-year-old Honduran national, was arrested and charged with a range of offenses, including negligent homicide, driving under the influence, and failure to stop after an accident involving death.
According to Arkansas State Police, the fatal incident occurred on September 8 when Sorto-Herrera, driving southbound, crossed into the northbound lane and struck Morton’s vehicle head-on. Police arrived at the scene to find Sorto-Herrera attempting to flee, but he was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.
Sorto-Herrera had previously crossed the southern border near Laredo, Texas, in 2018, but was returned to Honduras by U.S. Border Patrol agents. At an unknown later date, he successfully re-entered the country undetected.
Morton, a longtime Little Rock resident and dedicated respiratory therapist at Arkansas Children’s Hospital for 24 years, leaves behind her parents, brother, and other family members. She was known for her commitment to caring for children, a passion reflected in her obituary.
Sorto-Herrera is currently being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on him, requesting custody if he is released from jail.
