An illegal alien is accused of killing St. Louis Police Officer David Lee, a husband and father, in a tragic drunk driving crash that has left a community mourning and a family shattered.
A tragic drunk driving accident has claimed the life of St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department (SLMPD) Officer David Lee, a 44-year-old husband, father, and 18-year veteran of the force. The man accused of causing the fatal crash, 24-year-old Ramon Arnaldo Chavez-Rodriguez, is an illegal alien from Honduras who now faces multiple charges, including driving under the influence and causing a death.
The incident occurred on September 22 when Chavez-Rodriguez, allegedly speeding and intoxicated, lost control of his vehicle and struck Officer Lee, who was responding to a separate one-car crash alongside the highway. Police report that Chavez-Rodriguez’s blood alcohol level was 0.10 percent, over Missouri’s legal limit of 0.08 percent. The impact of the collision threw Lee several feet from the crash site. Despite being rushed to St. Louis University Hospital, Lee succumbed to his injuries.
Officer Lee is remembered by his family as a devoted father and husband. His wife, Tonya, tearfully described him as her "best friend" and "other half," while his son, Khalil, shared that his father’s dedication to his work as a police officer inspired him to pursue a career in criminal justice.
Chavez-Rodriguez remains in jail without bail as the investigation continues. This devastating loss has rocked both Lee’s family and the St. Louis community, as they mourn the passing of a beloved officer who spent nearly two decades serving and protecting his city.
