A four-year-old boy is in critical condition after an illegal immigrant, allegedly driving drunk, crashed into a vehicle in Dallas, injuring five other children before fleeing the scene.

A four-year-old boy is in critical condition in Dallas, Texas, after an alleged drunk driving incident involving an illegal immigrant, which also left five other children injured. Jose Castro, a 20-year-old illegal immigrant, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of intoxication assault, hit-and-run, and causing serious bodily harm following the September 28 crash.

Police reports state that Castro consumed four beers before driving a 2018 Chevy Malibu, running a red light, and crashing into a 2016 GMC Acadia carrying eight people, including six children aged 4 months to 17 years. The four-year-old boy was ejected from the vehicle, suffering severe injuries, including bone fractures and a lacerated liver. A five-year-old boy also required emergency surgery for a fractured jaw.

All six children were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. After the crash, Castro fled the scene but was later found hiding in nearby bushes by a police K9 unit. He remains in Dallas County Jail, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placing a detainer on him, requesting custody if he is released.
