Illegal Immigrant Arrested For Abducting Girl On Way To School In Virginia

A man who crossed into the U.S. illegally last year is being held without bond after allegedly abducting a girl on her way to school in Manassas, Virginia, before she managed to escape and seek help.

A 23-year-old man, Enrique Ramirez Cabrera, who crossed into the U.S. illegally last year, is being held without bond after allegedly abducting a girl walking to school in Manassas, Virginia. Cabrera appeared in court Monday morning, where a judge denied his release, despite his public defender citing no prior criminal history.

According to investigators, Cabrera approached the girl last Thursday morning as she walked along Clover Hill Road, identified himself as a police officer, and forced her into his vehicle. The victim managed to escape about two miles away, where a passerby, Summer Stacey, saw her in distress and called 911.

Cabrera, a Peruvian immigrant, had been detained at the U.S.-Mexico border in December but was released into the U.S. Attorney General Jason Miyares expressed frustration with the federal government's handling of such cases, calling it “disturbing.”

The victim was taken to the hospital for evaluation and is expected to recover. Cabrera faces multiple charges, including abduction and impersonating a police officer, and is scheduled to return to court on November 13.
