A 20-year-old man, previously deported and living illegally in the U.S., has been arrested and charged with the sexual battery of a 14-year-old girl in Fort Walton Beach, following a chilling home invasion.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office has charged a man with the sexual battery of a 14-year-old girl.
Kevin Mauricio Escobar Munoz, 20, was arrested on Wednesday following an investigation. Munoz, originally from Honduras, is in the country illegally, according to OCSO officials.
Authorities reported that on April 21, the victim awoke in her home in Fort Walton Beach shortly before 7 a.m. to find an unknown Hispanic male assaulting her. A medical examination confirmed sexual abuse, as noted in an official release.
On July 11, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement announced that a DNA profile matching the male sample from the victim's sexual assault kit belonged to Escobar Munoz. Investigators also discovered that Munoz was residing within one mile of the victim’s home.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Munoz had been deported in September 2022.
Munoz has also been charged with burglary for forcibly entering the victim’s residence and is currently being held at the Okaloosa County Jail.
