A Cuban national wanted for the murder of a Tennessee woman was arrested in Texas after entering the U.S. through the controversial CBP-One app, sparking sharp criticism from Senator Marsha Blackburn.
A Cuban national wanted in connection with a recent murder in Tennessee was arrested on Monday in La Pryor, Texas, after entering the U.S. through the controversial CBP-One smartphone application, according to Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN). The suspect, Dayren Roque Lopez, was apprehended near the U.S.-Mexico border, over 1,100 miles from where the crime took place.
Senator Blackburn quickly condemned the Biden administration following the arrest, posting on social media, "An illegal who entered the U.S. through the Biden-Harris CBP One app last year is the suspect in the murder of a young woman in Tennessee. This administration is welcoming violent criminals into our nation. The blood of the victims is on Joe and Kamala’s hands."
Lopez was named the primary suspect after the body of 25-year-old Dayana Garcia was found inside a home in Cleveland, Tennessee. Garcia had been reported missing, and authorities suspect her death was the result of domestic violence. Following a lookout for Lopez's vehicle, a Texas sheriff’s deputy recognized his Toyota Corolla and stopped him near a department store in La Pryor, about 50 miles from the Mexican border.
Lopez’s arrest highlights concerns surrounding the use of the CBP-One app, which has been criticized for allegedly enabling the entry of individuals with violent histories into the U.S.
