The New York Post recently reported that the woman at the center of Emhoff’s affair during his first marriage was Najen Naylor, the couple’s nanny at the time. Naylor also worked at the school attended by Emhoff's children. Multiple reports indicate that Naylor became pregnant with Emhoff’s child during the affair, a fact that has remained largely hidden from public view until now. The details of that pregnancy and how it ended are still murky. However, a woman who dated Emhoff after his divorce has stated that Naylor lost the baby and blamed Emhoff for the miscarriage.
While Emhoff has attempted to paint his past infidelity as a personal failing that he and his family have worked through, other incidents have come to light that cast shadows on his character. One such incident occurred on the night of June 28, 2009, when Los Angeles police were called to Naylor’s home in what was classified as a “level three” emergency response, a designation typically reserved for life-threatening situations. Although the LAPD has refused to provide further details on the nature of the emergency, the incident has raised speculation about what transpired between Emhoff and Naylor that night.
Adding further intrigue, reports suggest that Emhoff paid Naylor $80,000 and secured a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) shortly after the LAPD visit. However, it appears that Emhoff himself violated the terms of that agreement by confiding in a former girlfriend about the incident, potentially leaving Naylor free to speak out. Emhoff’s troubles don’t end with the affair. A woman who dated him after his marriage ended has accused him of assaulting her during a vacation in France in May 2012. According to the woman, Emhoff struck her in the face during an argument, knocking her backward. She provided travel records and communications that corroborate her relationship with him and her claim of violence. A friend of the woman further backed up her account, describing the assault as a violent and frightening episode. The woman ended the relationship following the incident.
Emhoff began dating Kamala Harris just months after this alleged assault, raising questions about whether Harris knew about the prior affair with the nanny or the accusations of violence. Harris, now in the spotlight as the Democrat presidential nominee, has so far declined to comment on either the affair or the assault allegations. As the public begins to digest these revelations, pressure may mount for Harris to address what she knew about Emhoff’s past and when.
The timing of these revelations could pose significant challenges for Harris, whose campaign has largely been focused on economic recovery and civil rights.
