Disgraced Former Trump Lawyer Plans To Leave Country

Michael Cohen, once Donald Trump's personal attorney, now says he’s ready to flee the country under a new identity if Trump wins the presidency again—a drastic move he feels is his only option to escape potential political retaliation.

Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney for Donald Trump who famously turned against his old boss, issued a bold proclamation during an appearance on MSNBC's "Deadline" this Monday. In a conversation with host Nicolle Wallace, Cohen revealed his drastic plan should Donald Trump win the upcoming presidential election: he’ll leave the country, assuming a new identity in the process.

"I’m already working on a foreign passport with a completely different name," Cohen said. "I don’t know how it’s going to work as far as dealing with my wife and my children. I certainly don’t want them moving to where I’m looking to go."

Cohen’s past entanglements with Trump are well-documented. Convicted for lying and defrauding his former client, the attorney’s relationship with the former president is now defined by acrimony and fear. His latest remarks underscore the depth of his concern over a potential Trump return to the White House. Cohen believes it’s not just him who should be worried.

In the interview, he warned that other prominent figures—including MSNBC's leadership, General Mark Milley, and Liz Cheney—would also be in Trump’s crosshairs if he regains the presidency. "How many people has he turned around and said that these are people I intend to go after if I have the ability to?" Cohen asked, alluding to Trump’s well-known penchant for political retribution.

Perhaps most troubling for Cohen is the recent Supreme Court ruling that he interprets as granting Trump presidential immunity, making it impossible to prosecute him while in office. "Now he thinks it is not only can I do whatever I want, but I can’t even be prosecuted," Cohen added. "It’s a get-out-of-jail-free card."

As Wallace probed deeper, asking whether he was serious about fleeing, Cohen’s response was unequivocal: “I have no choice.” His plan, though extreme, highlights the anxiety among some of Trump’s former inner circle, convinced that a second term would bring with it unchecked power and vengeance.

While Cohen’s prediction paints a grim scenario, it also serves as a reminder of the deep divisions Trump continues to sow, even among those once closest to him. Whether Cohen will follow through on his escape plan remains to be seen, but his words reflect a stark warning about what might come if the former president returns to the political stage.
