Dem Congressman Predicts Trump and Democracy Will Win

Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) predicts Donald Trump's victory over President Biden, criticizing Biden's economic record and urging confidence in the resilience of American democracy despite the political turmoil.

Rep. Jared Golden (D-ME) expressed strong criticism of President Joe Biden in an op-ed, predicting that Donald Trump will defeat Biden in the upcoming election. He argues that the election will be a referendum on Biden’s poor economic record, stating that “some of Congress’ best work in recent years has happened in spite of the president, not because of him.”

In his Tuesday op-ed in the Bangor Daily News, Golden highlights widespread Democrat panic following Biden’s poor debate performance, which he claims was not surprising. “Biden’s poor performance in the debate was not a surprise,” Golden writes. He adds that the outcome of the election has been clear to him for months, and although he doesn't plan to vote for Trump, he believes Trump will win.

Golden criticizes Biden's attempt to reframe the election around Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, during a White House press conference. Biden urged the public to consider whether Trump’s behavior makes him unfit for office. However, Golden counters this narrative, asserting that American democracy will remain strong despite Trump’s likely victory.

“There are winners and losers in every election,” Golden writes. He rejects the idea that a Trump victory poses a unique threat to democracy, emphasizing that American democracy has endured numerous challenges over its 248-year history. He criticizes the Biden campaign’s focus on the economy, arguing that Congress has played a more significant role in economic matters than the president.

Golden offers a critical assessment of Biden’s economic record, stating, “This election is about the economy, not democracy.” He praises some of Trump’s trade policies and calls on Congress to resist economic elites and GOP old-guard members who may use a Trump presidency to benefit the wealthy at the expense of working families.

He concludes by urging voters, elected officials, and citizens to ignore scare tactics and trust in the resilience of American democracy. “This Independence Day, we should reflect on the history and strength of our great democracy, safe in the knowledge that no one man is strong enough to take it away from us,” Golden writes.
