CNN's Dana Bash is facing backlash for spreading foreign disinformation after falsely blaming Trump and Sen. JD Vance for bomb threats in Ohio—later revealed to be part of a hoax orchestrated by overseas actors.
CNN's Dana Bash has come under fire for amplifying what turned out to be foreign disinformation about a series of bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio. The town, which saw a population spike after the Harris-Biden administration relocated 20,000 Haitian migrants there, has faced challenges as a result. Unverified reports of Haitian immigrants allegedly engaging in disturbing practices, such as using pets in rituals, surfaced online and were amplified by former President Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH). Vance, citing direct complaints from constituents, echoed concerns about missing pets.
When bomb threats hit local schools, Bash, without evidence, pointed fingers at Trump and Vance, suggesting their rhetoric had incited the threats. However, authorities later revealed that all 33 bomb threats were hoaxes originating from a foreign caller, part of a disinformation campaign likely aimed at damaging Trump’s 2024 campaign.
Donald Trump Jr. weighed in, accusing the media of playing into the hands of foreign adversaries, stating that left-wing outlets like CNN weaponized misinformation to unfairly attack his father and Vance. Bash’s role in spreading the disinformation further underscores concerns about media figures being unwitting tools for foreign influence in U.S. elections.
