Democratic strategist James Carville has praised Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign rollout but warned that "she's going to get slaughtered" over her past leftwing statements, urging her team to brace for the inevitable attacks.
During an interview on PBS's “Firing Line” this week, Democratic strategist James Carville praised the initial rollout of Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign but warned that she could face severe backlash for her past statements endorsing unpopular leftwing ideas.
Carville anticipated these forthcoming attacks and urged Harris' campaign to be prepared.
“What is the key for the vice president to sustain this excitement for her candidacy throughout the rest of the campaign?” PBS host Margaret Hoover asked.
“That’s the key question,” Carville replied. “The first thing is to recognize what happened. People wanted something different, and she projects excitement about the future. There was no specific policy or group behind this; it was a general desire for an alternative to Donald Trump and President Biden, and they got it.
“Now look — she’s going to get slaughtered,” he continued. “They’re coming after her, and this is just like any other campaign. Her team needs to be ready to defend and attack simultaneously. There will be a struggle over defining who Vice President Harris is, and we better be ready for that.”
