Biden Admin Says Trump Responsible For Slow Electric Cars Sales

The Biden administration is blaming former President Donald Trump for the slowdown in electric vehicle sales, with Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm citing "talking down" of EVs as a major factor in dampened demand ahead of the 2024 election.

The Biden administration is now pointing fingers at former President Donald Trump for the sluggish sales of electric vehicles (EVs), as Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm suggested that negative rhetoric around EVs has dampened demand. In an interview with *The Daily Show* on Tuesday, Granholm blamed “a lot of talking down” of electric vehicles for the “hiccup” in sales but expressed optimism that interest would rebound after the upcoming election.

Host Michael Kosta raised concerns about the slowing EV market, asking Granholm about the challenges the administration faces in promoting the transition to electric cars. Granholm responded, “We’ve sold 4 million EVs since the start of this administration, which is more than all EVs ever sold before.” However, she acknowledged the dip in enthusiasm, attributing it to negative public discourse about electric vehicles, which she suggested has been influenced by Trump’s continued criticism of Biden’s green energy policies.

Granholm predicted that after the November election, there will be “more positivity” around EVs. She also highlighted incentives from the Inflation Reduction Act, such as a $7,500 credit for consumers purchasing electric vehicles, and noted that the number of public EV charging stations across the country has now reached 200,000.

As the Biden administration pushes for more widespread adoption of electric cars, they face a tough battle in countering skepticism from both consumers and critics, with Trump’s influence being cited as a key factor in shaping public perception of the green energy shift.
