CPAC claims to have caught illegal ballot harvesting on camera in Wisconsin, sparking fresh scrutiny of election integrity just days before voters head to the polls.
The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) has filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission, alleging illegal "ballot harvesting" after what it claims was a violation of the state’s election law witnessed at a Milwaukee dropbox. CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp announced the complaint on Wednesday, citing photographic evidence and a witness account that reported seeing up to 500 ballots deposited in a ballot dropbox outside Milwaukee City Hall.
The witness detailed the event, stating that he saw an individual approach the dropbox with two bags and repeatedly reach into a large green bag to deposit what he estimated to be between 50 and 500 absentee ballots. When the individual noticed he was being watched and photographed, he quickly left the scene. The witness provided four photos, which CPAC submitted alongside the complaint.
Under Wisconsin law, ballot harvesting is prohibited, requiring voters to handle their own ballots unless they have a disability. CPAC's complaint emphasizes that these actions, if verified, could represent a breach of Wisconsin’s election laws. Schlapp, on social media, urged a thorough investigation, writing, “CPAC is committed to protecting our elections and urges WEC and local law enforcement to investigate these allegations.”
This development adds fuel to ongoing national debates over election security and ballot handling as election day nears.
